Imagine this: you really want to change something—a pattern, an emotion, a memory that lingers—but you don't have the time or energy to travel to a practice each time. Video therapy removes that barrier. At Ik wil verandering, you work online with IEMT, a method that uses eye movements to address persistent emotions, memories and identity patterns. Short-term, structured and fully remote. Janine, a certified IEMT practitioner, personally guides you through every session.

How does a video session work in practice?

You may be wondering whether online therapy really works when the therapist isn't in the same room. With IEMT, this isn't an obstacle. The eye movements, which are the core element of the method, are just as effective on screen as they are in person. You receive a simple link, click it at the agreed time and the video call starts straight away. No account, no download. Janine guides the session step by step: she asks questions, visually guides the eye movements and regularly checks how you are feeling. A session lasts 60 minutes. All you need is a quiet space, a device with a camera and a stable internet connection.

Who is remote therapy suitable for?

Online therapy by video suits many people, but it helps to know when it can be a particularly good choice. People with busy schedules, parents who find it difficult to leave home, and people with travel anxiety or physical limitations can all find video sessions an accessible alternative. IEMT on screen works particularly well for those who want to address trauma, anxiety, phobias or emotional triggers. Below is a comparison of situations where online sessions are a natural choice.

What does research say about IEMT as an online method?

IEMT is a relatively new method, and scientific research is continuing to develop. In March 2026, the first peer-reviewed study on IEMT was published in the Journal of Evidence-Based Psychotherapies, with researchers affiliated with Maastricht University. In this exploratory study involving 33 participants, both IEMT and EMDR eye movements reduced the emotional intensity of negative memories significantly more than a control condition, with no significant difference between the two methods. This is an initial, exploratory study whose findings should be interpreted with caution; IEMT is not a proven or guaranteed treatment. What this finding does suggest is that the core of IEMT—eye movements guided by a practitioner—does not require being physically together to have an effect. This makes online therapy by video a valid format for this method.
