What does IEMT feel like, and what can you expect?

Honest stories, no promises. This is how clients describe their IEMT experiences.

You’re considering IEMT, but you’re wondering what it feels like. What happens during a session? What do you notice afterwards? Those questions are very understandable. On this page, you can read about people’s real experiences, honestly, straightforwardly and without exaggeration. This gives you a clearer idea of what to expect if you decide to take that step.

What you need to know

Method
IEMT uses eye movements to process emotions, memories and identity patterns that feel stuck, without endless talking.
Session length
A session lasts 60 minutes and takes place entirely online via video call, with nothing to install.
Initial consultation fee
The initial consultation costs €100 excluding VAT. Payment is handled securely through Stripe.
Research
An initial exploratory, peer-reviewed study (2026, involving Maastricht University, among others) found that IEMT eye movements significantly reduced the emotional intensity of negative memories, though caution is needed given the early stage of the research.
IEMT experiences are difficult to put into words, as almost everyone will tell you. Still, people keep trying: 'It felt as though it took the edge off.' Or: 'I still thought about what had happened, but it no longer affected me.' These aren’t marketing slogans, but genuine descriptions of what people experience. On this page, we bring together honest accounts of the process, from before the first session to weeks afterwards, to give you a realistic picture of what IEMT could mean for you.

What does an IEMT session feel like from start to finish?

Many people feel nervous at first. They’re not quite sure what to expect, and that is completely normal. The session begins calmly: Janine asks you to describe what’s troubling you, briefly rather than in detail. Then the eye movement work begins. What clients describe at this point varies: some feel a sense of letting go, while others notice a memory becoming less vivid as they focus on it. Many people are surprised by how little they need to share. You don’t have to reconstruct a traumatic story for something to begin to shift.

What do people say about their IEMT experiences compared with other therapies?

People who have had talking therapy before often notice a big difference. Talking about a painful subject can sometimes bring it closer, whereas people describe the opposite with IEMT: the emotional intensity decreases even while they are working with it. An initial exploratory, peer-reviewed study (Journal of Evidence-Based Psychotherapies, 2026, involving Maastricht University, among others) examined this in 33 participants. Both methods, IEMT and EMDR, reduced emotional intensity significantly more than the control condition, with no significant difference between the two. This is early, exploratory research; definitive conclusions cannot yet be drawn.

What do you notice in the days and weeks after an IEMT session?

Processing doesn’t stop when the video call ends. Many people notice that things continue to shift in the days that follow: a memory that comes back less vividly, or a pattern they suddenly recognise without getting caught up in it. Others feel temporarily tired or emotional, which is a sign that something is shifting. Janine discusses this with you after each session so you know what is normal. IEMT is short-term and structured, but that doesn’t mean everything is resolved in a single conversation. For some issues, several sessions can be helpful.

Could IEMT be right for you, even if you’re unsure?

Uncertainty is an honest response to something unfamiliar. Most people who now speak positively about their IEMT experience had questions beforehand too. IEMT is not a medical treatment, and results are not guaranteed. If you are experiencing an acute crisis or serious mental health difficulties, contact your GP or a specialist mental health professional first. But if you feel stuck with an emotional issue, a memory that keeps resurfacing or a recurring pattern, an initial consultation with no obligation to continue can already offer a lot of clarity.
